Firms and Estate Managers

Permissions

What a client can grant a firm: presets, capabilities, and scoping by collection.

A firm's access to a client's account is a set of capabilities, chosen by the client when approving the request and changeable by the client at any time.

Presets

PresetGrants
Full managementFull inventory management — recommended for most estate managers. Add, edit and move assets; documents; valuations; verification; reports; the plan.
All capabilities except heir managementEverything in Full management except designating heirs and changing the estate plan.
View onlyRead access to assets, documents and reports at the client's chosen visibility.
CustomPick capabilities one by one, and restrict them to particular collections.

Capabilities

  • View assets · View values · View exact locations · View documents
  • Add and edit assets · Move assets · Upload documents · Record valuations · Record verifications
  • Run reports and exports
  • Manage insurance policies
  • Manage heirs and the estate plan
  • Request services on the client's behalf

Scope

Any grant can be limited to collections — the firm manages the art, not the jewelry. High-value assets can be excluded from a grant as a group.

On the firm's side

Within what the client granted, the firm decides which of its team sees the client at all: owners and admins see every client; managers and viewers see only the clients assigned to them. A team member can never exceed what the client granted the firm.

Changing permissions

The client changes them from Account → Access → Firms and advisers → Edit permissions; the firm sees the change immediately. The firm can ask for more from the portal; the client approves or not.
