Your first assets
The Sample Collection, adding an asset by hand, Capture from a photo, and bulk adding from what you already have.
The Sample Collection
Every new account starts with five sample assets in a collection called Sample Collection — a watch, a painting, a necklace, a handbag and a ceramic vessel — each fully filled in so you can see what a well-documented record looks like.
Samples are marked with a badge and are deliberately inert: they count toward no total, appear in no export, never enter your estate plan, and are never encrypted. Remove them whenever you like — select several in the Assets grid, open one and choose Remove sample, or remove the whole Sample Collection in one go.
Add an asset by hand
Add asset
From Assets, Boards or the ⌘K palette choose Add asset (⌘N on desktop), then the category. Each category has its own record — a watch asks for reference number and movement, a wine for vintage and fill level. See Asset types.
The essentials
A title and a category are all that is required. Everything else — collection, location, photos, purchase details, a value — can come later and the record tells you what is still missing.
Photos and documents
Add photos from your device; the first becomes the cover. Attach documents — receipt, appraisal, certificate, provenance, insurance policy, grading or condition report — with their date, issuer and expiry if they have one.
Save
The asset gets a permanent registry ID and appears in Assets. If you gave it no value it is counted as an estimate, and Portfolio will tell you so.
Capture — a photo that drafts the record
On a phone, the brass button in the centre of the tab bar opens the camera. In Asset mode, one photo drafts the record: title, maker, year or era, type, the nearest matching collection and the location you are standing in. Fields the model is confident about are marked; the rest ask for confirmation. Review, correct, and Save to Assets. If the photo contains several objects, each becomes its own draft.
Other camera modes: Walkthrough (photograph a room; every shot becomes a draft in that location), Verify tag, Document (flatten a page; it is cropped and attached), Look up (point at one of your labels to open the asset) and Condition (record unchanged / changed / damaged with photos). See Adding assets.
Bulk add
Already have a spreadsheet, a folder of appraisals, an insurance schedule? Add → Bulk add takes the files you have — any type — along with the category for the batch and an optional collection, and creates the assets for you to refine. Enterprise accounts can also ask the Wealth Partners team to import an existing catalogue: Services.
Drafts — assets saved before their value or record is confirmed — show with a dot in Assets and on Today, so nothing you started in a hurry gets forgotten.
