The asset page
Everything about one asset, in the order you would act on it: the record, the value, the photographs, the documents, the valuation history and the activity.
The asset page is built on one rule: every fact appears exactly once, in the place where you would act on it, and the answer to "is this asset in good order?" is visible without scrolling.
Top of the page
Header — the title, then a facet line: category, sub-type, maker, year or era, collection and location, each a link. Actions: Upload (photo or document), Edit, Share, and a menu with Publish to store, Print QR label, Move, Duplicate and Delete. There is deliberately no big primary button: on a record page, the primary act is reading it.
Attention line — at most one amber row, and only for verification ("Never verified — no tag assigned" → Assign a tag). It disappears the moment the asset is tagged. Insurance, document and valuation problems are shown in their own sections, never repeated here.
Value strip — four figures:
| Figure | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Current estimate | The latest valuation, with its evidence: Appraisal · appraiser, date or Your estimate · no appraisal |
| Cost basis | What you paid, with how and when it was acquired — or Not recorded |
| Change | Current estimate against cost basis. Shows — when it cannot honestly be computed |
| Insured for | The policy that covers it and whether the cover is enough |
The page never states a number that is not true. A gift with no purchase price shows Not recorded and a change of —, not $0 and a fabricated gain.
Photographs
The cover image with a thumbnail strip beneath it. Drag to reorder; the first is the cover everywhere the asset appears. The camera button on a phone adds another angle through Capture.
The record
The nine facts that identify the asset — Maker · Year or era · Type · Material · Dimensions · Condition · Acquired · Credit line · Provenance — followed by the full category record (every field under Asset types). Edit opens the whole record.
Sections
- Documents — what is attached, and what the category expects but is missing (a certificate for a gem, provenance for a painting). Upload directly here.
- Valuation — the history: every valuation in order, with its source and confidence. Add an appraisal, enter your own estimate, or ask the valuation engine for an indicative estimate (low / mid / high) from the asset's details and comparable sales. See Valuation.
- Where this asset appears — the boards, ensembles, share links, auction submissions and listings it is part of.
- Notes — free text. Encrypted when the account is encrypted.
- Activity — the audit trail for this asset: created, edited, valued, moved, verified, shared, documented — who and when.
Samples
A sample asset shows a Sample badge and a single Remove sample action; it has no attention line, no insurance figure and no place in the estate plan. See Your first assets.
